Listing Description

Villa Lagon is a magnificent home in Oualidia. The villa is in an elevated position overlooking the estuary with panoramic views of the sea and surrounding farmland. Designed to blend into the landscape, it is set in 2.5 hectares of grounds with lawn, swimming pool, vegetable garden and olive grove.

The villa is a wonderfully peaceful and relaxing place to bask in Oualidia's unique light, while the sea breezes maintain a pleasant temperature even on the hottest days (although the house is equipped with air conditioning in summer and heating in winter). With no neighbors, all you'll hear is the wind in the trees, birdsong by day, frogs chirping by night and the occasional hi-han from the donkey. The house staff are friendly and welcoming, and their mission is to take care of your every need. All you have to do is relax and enjoy the view.

Built on the side of a gentle slope, the house is on two levels. On the first floor, built around a large, lush courtyard with palm, olive and orange trees, there are 4 double bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, a TV room, a large living room, a dining room and a kitchen. Two folding beds are available on request.

A large terrace with extraordinary 360-degree views is accessed via a staircase from the courtyard.

The living room opens onto a 25 m veranda with a magnificent view of the sea estuary, and features plenty of comfortable armchairs. You'll love sitting here and watching the sun set over the Atlantic while sipping delicately chilled Moroccan wine accompanied by rosemary-flavored olives fresh from the herb garden!

The dining room opens onto a charming pergola with a large green mosaic table, perfect for al fresco dining.

Under the veranda on the lower floor are two further double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a ping-pong room. All rooms on this level overlook the lagoon, with fragrant eucalyptus in the foreground and the pool beyond.

The rooms are all spacious, with double beds, shimmering carpets and original artwork. All beds have electric blankets for chilly evenings. All bathrooms have two sinks and a shower.

As water is scarce in Morocco, there are no bathtubs at Villa Lagon. Water comes from the villa's own well, and we're sure you'll understand just how precious this resource is. The water in the house is heated by solar panels, and all waste water is recycled through different filtration tanks. It is then used to water the garden.

EQUIPMENT

OUTDOOR

Swimming pool: Villa Lagon boasts Morocco's first natural swimming pool, with a lush lawn, deckchairs and a breathtaking view of the estuary opposite. No chemicals are used in pool maintenance. The water passes through a UV filter, which kills bacteria and algae. The water is then filtered naturally through a variety of reeds and aquatic plants. As in all natural pools, you'll find the occasional frog, totally harmless.

As the pool is cleaned naturally by the plants, it is not heated. It's delightfully refreshing in summer, and rather invigorating in winter! The pool is between 1.35 m and 1.48 m deep.

The garden: There are beautiful lawns with deckchairs to contemplate the view. You can play table tennis or badminton. You'll be enchanted by the olive grove and the vast vegetable garden where fruit, vegetables and salads are grown.

INSIDE

The villa is beautifully furnished and decorated in a very eclectic style. There are lots of fascinating books to read and there's an iPod docking station in the living room as well as card games, Scrabble, backgammon, Monopoly and table soccer. In the TV room, we have X-Box and Wii, with a selection of DVDs.

Please note: There is no landline telephone or wi-fi at Villa Lagon. The cell phone network is generally good. For Internet access, we recommend going to the L'Hippocampe hotel on Oualidia beach and having a coffee while using their free wi-fi! Alternatively, a good lunch at La Sultana will do just as well.
